(Dakota News Now) MANKATO, MN The No. 14 Augustana baseball team’s winning streak was ended on Saturday afternoon when they lost to Minnesota State in both of their doubleheader games.

The Mavericks go to 30-14, 25-8, while the Vikings fall to 35-8 overall and 26-6 in the NSIC.

First game: Augustana 2, Minnesota State 7.

The Mavericks rallied from a two-run deficit to win the game with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jason Axelberg had two hits, including a home run, for the Vikings, who finished with six hits overall. Jack Hines scored the game’s second run, while Nick Banowetz, Max Mosser, Drey Dirksen, and Luke Ballweg all earned hits.

After being given the go-ahead to start the first game, Ashton Michek pitched five innings, giving up four runs and striking out seven.

In the second inning, Axelberg started things off with a bang. He managed to get a hold of one to left after fouling off a bunt, hitting his fifth home run of the year to give AU a 1-0 lead.

In the upper sixth, Dirksen drove one off the wall in left center to drive in Hines and end the AU scoring after a fielder’s choice cut off a run and put Hines on second base with two outs.

Second game: Augustana 5, Minnesota State 14.

In a crushing loss, Tate Meiners had two of the five Viking hits. Like Hines, he too had two RBI and a home run. Max Mosser and Joe Kolbeck joined those two as the Augustana bats who recorded a hit.

After giving up five runs in five innings while striking out four, Mariano Gomez was given a no-decision.

MSU jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with four goals in the first and one in the second. In the sixth inning, Banowetz reached on a one-out error and Kolbeck doubled him home to spark the Vikings’ comeback.

Hines followed Kolbeck into the box and edged AU closer before unleashing a long-range bomb to the left to pull the Vikings within 5-3.

After that, Dirksen walked, forcing a change in pitching for MSU. Tate Meiners tied the score at five with a no-doubter to left on the game’s first “pen pitch.”

After regaining the lead with a basket in the bottom of the sixth, the Mavericks scored seven more points in the seventh and one more in the eighth to complete the doubleheader sweep.

The teams will get a day break before playing one another on Monday at 3 p.m.

Vikings to hire Kevin O'Connell as new head coach | kare11.com

We had been updating our Undrafted Free Agency Tracker after the 2024 NFL Draft, but I had to step away for a little period. But while I was away, the Vikings graciously made public the contracts they had reached with all 17 of the undrafted free agents.

Here is the complete list of undrafted free agents that the Minnesota Vikings signed after this year’s selection meeting, without further ado.

Matthew Cindric, OL, CA
Miami’s K.J. Cloyd, LB
Jeremy Flax, Kentucky, an OL
Toledo, Dallas Gant, LB
Ty James, WR, Mercer; Devron Harper, WR, Mercer
Jeshaun Jones, College Park, Md.
Tennessee Trey Knox, South Carolina
Tyler Manoa, Arizona (DL)
The LB at Florida International is Donovan Manuel.
Arkansas’s Dwight McGlothern, CB
UCLA’s Gabriel Murphy, OLB
West Virginian Doug Nester, OL
Marshall, Owen Porter, and OLB
Bo Richter, Army Air Corps, OLB
Rolland, Spencer, North Carolina
Oregon’s Taki Taimani, DL

Even while I don’t know a lot about each player, the general feeling among the social media users who do appear to be extremely knowledgeable about these players is that Murphy is the finest signing of them all, given that most sites seemed to have Murphy projected as a late third- to early fourth-round pick. McGlothern appears to be well-liked by the public as well.

The squad now officially has a full 90-man roster thanks to these 17 additions and the seven players the Vikings selected during this year’s Draft weekend. As they do every year, I’m sure the Minnesota Vikings will hold tryout camps in the upcoming weeks, from which they may sign people. However, as of right now, there are no open roster places.

People, is there anyone on the UDFA list that you’re especially impressed with?
