Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Atlanta Falcons select Michael Penix Jr., QB, Washington 8th overall | The Draft Wire

In the NFL Draft on Thursday night, Michael Penix Jr. might be the target of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Months have passed since the Raiders and the quarterback from Washington were linked by oddsmakers, but it seems like the combination is solidifying only hours before Roger Goodell hits the stage in Detroit.

Penix had the greatest chances of any team at the moment to be chosen by Las Vegas on Monday, with +300 at BetMGM Sportsbook.

Since since, those odds have only slowly increased.

The Raiders, who now own the No. 13 selection, slipped to +200 to take Penix by Wednesday.

As the selection draws near, the odds on the Raiders and Penix combination have dropped even further to -110, placing them far ahead of the other teams vying for a quarterback: the Vikings (+450), Broncos (+750), and Giants (+750).

Penix’s draft position is now listed by DraftKings as 32.5. However, there is a lot of action on the under (-320), suggesting that the Raiders may need to trade down in the first round or choose Penix at No. 13.

Penix is +240 to make it out of the first round, so there’s a chance he ends up in the second round, where the Raiders own the No. 44 pick.

For Washington, Penix had a remarkable season that included a 14-1 record and a trip to the national title game.

Although he possesses an incredible arm, several organizations are concerned about his extensive history of injuries.

Rumor has it that Las Vegas, with an uninspiring quarterback room, is looking to add a signal-caller in Thursday night’s draft.

Aidan O’Connell, a second-year quarterback, and veteran Gardner Minshew, whom the team signed to a two-year, $25 million contract this summer, are the Raiders’ current roster members.

Jimmy Garoppolo was let go by the organization in March, only a year after he inked a record-breaking three-year, $72.75 million contract.

The Raiders are also mentioned by bookmakers when it comes to Bo Nix, and they currently have the fifth-best odds (+750) to select the quarterback from Oregon.
