Breaking: Birmingham City Star is instantly arrested for driving under the influence.
most recent Birmingham City newsGary Rowett discusses defender Dion Sanderson’s suspected drunk driving in real time.
Dion Sanderson will be evaluated by Gary Rowett based on his performance, as the captain’s armband was taken away from him and he was punished by Birmingham City for his drunk driving infraction.
Following an altercation in the wake of the Blues’ victory over Coventry City, Sanderson is scheduled to appear in court next week on a charge of driving while intoxicated. The defender started for the Blues against Rotherham last week, but John Ruddy was named captain and is likely to stay in that position for the next two games.
Early last week, Sanderson was disciplined by Blues after West Midlands Police reported the incident to the team. After expressing regret to his teammates, the 24-year-old teamed up at the back with Krystian Bielik to take on Rotherham.
Prior to the Blues’ pivotal Championship matchup with relegation rivals Huddersfield Town on Saturday, Rowett must make a choice over Sanderson. Rowett has more defensive alternatives with Marc Roberts and Emanuel Aiwu, who are both back to full fitness.
The Blues’ temporary manager, John Rowett, stated, “I have to judge the players available and how they’ve trained all week.” “We immediately discussed the incident, we discussed the values that our club upholds regardless of the circumstances on the field, and we have made every effort to reach the best conclusion.
“We believed there should have been a disciplinary penalty in the form of a fine since we didn’t think the conduct should be indicative of being the captain, at least not in the near term. He expressed regret to the other players in a very transparent manner.
“He committed an error. It happens to young players sometimes, but luckily for him, his error wasn’t too serious. We go on, and just like everyone else, he will be assessed based on his form.

Following the derby loss, Sheffield Wednesday’s coach makes an open confession.
Sheffield The U21 team has a challenging assignment if they hope to place in the top two following their loss against Sheffield United on Wednesday.
The Professional Development League’s young Owls have had a fantastic season, and with two games remaining, they still have a chance to make it to the playoffs. Sadly, though, after a heartbreaking loss at Bramall Lane on Thursday night, they are now depending on Birmingham City to lose.
In the mini Steel City derby, Andy Holdsworth’s squad lost 2-0. With two games remaining, they moved up to the top spot, three points clear of Wednesday. Goals came from Ryan Oné and Louie Marsh, one in each half.
After players like Bruno Fernandes, Sam Reed, and Mackenzie Maltby nearly put the Owls back in the game, Holdsworth talked about the opportunities his team generated and expressed his disappointment at the loss.
“Losing a game is always discouraging,” he stated to The Star. “Especially if they are your local competitors… We didn’t play forward enough in the first half, and I felt the boys were a little hesitant and cautious about how they wanted to play. We had a talk with them at halftime about pressing harder and going forward, and I think we mostly succeeded in doing so, setting us some excellent opportunities. We change the game if we take those chances on a different day, but they won the game with two magnificent strikes.
“You don’t get many chances in big games, and it’s typically decided by set pieces of some individual brilliance, and you’ve seen that for the second goal today. With the chances we had, we had to be completing them. I spoke to the boys afterwards. Although discouraging, we get back up and try again.
The U21 team from Wednesday will play their final home game of the season against Swansea City the following week. The season will end on May 3rd away at Ipswich Town.
