Bloomington, Indiana: Kanaan Carlyle, a transfer, has joined the Indiana men’s basketball team, according to a statement made by head coach Mike Woodson on Wednesday. Carlyle, who played one season at Stanford and was named to the Pac-12 Freshman Team, comes to Indiana.

In his one and only season with the Cardinal, the 6-3 guard averaged 11.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 32.0% (32 of100) from the 3-point range. Of the 23 games he played, the Atlanta native scored in double figures in 15 of them and scored 20 points or more in three of them.

Carlyle made the All-Pac-12 Freshman Team as an honorable mention pick. He was named the Dick Vitale Diaper Dandy of the Week, the Associated Press National Player of the Week, and the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on January 2, 2024, following his performance on December 31 against No. 4 Arizona, when he scored 28 points on 6-of-8 3-point shooting, pulled down eight rebounds, and blocked two shots.

He was a unanimous four-star, top-60 recruit out of high school and Georgia’s fourth-ranked player. Before playing for Overtime Elite during his final year, Carlyle spent his first three years of high school at Milton. He led the YNG Dreamers to the OTE Championship game and averaged 9.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game for the YNG Dreamers in OTE. In 2021, Carlyle guided Milton to a state championship in Georgia while serving as a sophomore.

At the 2022 FIBA U18 Americas championship in Tijuana, Mexico, he was a member of the USA Basketball team that took home the gold medal.

Woodson regarding Carlyle

With the ball in his hands, Kanaan is a dynamic player who possesses the length and skill set to generate scoring opportunities for both himself and other players. His shooting stroke complements his ability off the bounce well. He has the physical attributes and mentality to be a productive defender for our team. We can’t wait to have him and his family visit IU.
