ESPN report: Insider Leaked The Secret About RJ Davis of UNC Basketball
It appears that the sensational UNC basketball player will soon make his decision to move back to Chapel Hill public.
RJ Davis has not yet released an official statement of his own. All indications, though, suggest that the guard for UNC basketball will play for the Tar Heels for one last season—his fifth and final.
After weeks of speculation on message boards and social media, CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander announced on Tuesday afternoon that Davis intends to exercise his option to play a fifth year. This is because the NCAA will not count Davis’ 2020–21 season—his freshman year in Chapel Hill—against anyone’s eligibility. And under Hubert Davis, the Tar Heel’s fourth-year head coach, the 22-year-old will accomplish so.
RJ Davis scored a career-high 21.2 points per game last season while also dishing out 3.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.2 steals a contest for a UNC team that won the ACC title, received a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and advanced to the Sweet 16 before losing to Alabama.
As the unanimous First Team All-American and ACC Player of the Year, he was awarded prizes.
It’s interesting to note that the 6-foot-3 point shooter would tie Tyler Hansbrough (2,872 points as a 2005–09 UNC basketball legend) for the highest scoring career in program history if he matches the 784 points he scored as a senior.
The news of Norlander’s report was made public on the same day that sophomore guard Seth Trimble of the Tar Heels announced his intention to withdraw from the transfer portal and rejoin UNC for his junior season.
Norlander also mentioned that Elliot Cadeau, a freshman guard, will move up to the UNC sophomore class.
The Tar Heel backcourt is among the greatest in the nation, not to mention one of Chapel Hill’s most formidable groupings of all time.

In an Unusual Move, UNC Basketball Gets First Name From Transfer Portal
Guard Seth Trimble of UNC is no longer thinking about switching programs.
In college basketball, your current roster may contain the top recruits available. Retaining players on the roster is crucial to team construction in the age of transfer portals, and UNC basketball has been among the best teams in this regard.
As he gets ready for his fourth season as head coach of the Tar Heels, Hubert Davis has done an excellent job of holding onto players like RJ Davis and Armando Bacot in previous years. But this time, bringing a player back to Chapel Hill presented a special challenge for him and his staff.
Just two weeks after announcing his possible transfer, Seth Trimble stated on Tuesday afternoon that he intended to remove his name from the transfer portal and go back to Chapel Hill.
Despite the Tar Heels being connected to several possible transfer additions, Trimble’s return to UNC marks the program’s first pledge from a player in this year’s transfer portal.
Trimble may compete with new five-star Ian Jackson for a starting position in the Tar Heel backcourt alongside Elliot Cadeau, depending on RJ Davis’s impending decision.
Trimble has played in 68 games overall throughout his two seasons at UNC, although with few minutes. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound player from Wisconsin averaged 17.2 minutes per game as a sophomore, averaging 5.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.9 assists after seeing minimal action as a rookie.
Seth Trimble will close a critical hole in UNC’s depth at the backcourt. And Chapel Hill will embrace him back with wide arms for his unwavering defense and his ability to slice and fly to the rim.
