Joe Mazzulla Discusses Boston Celtics' Physicality vs. New York Knicks - Sports Illustrated Boston Celtics News, Analysis and More

Unquestionably, head coach Joe Mazzulla has done an outstanding job leading the Boston Celtics to the top of the league and a regular season first-seed finish. The problem is that the NBA’s exclusion of him from the Coach of the Year contenders has angered the team’s supporters.

The front administration of the Celtics brought in two important players in the offseason: Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday. Mazzulla is now able to field an attack that can create shots from anywhere on the court without jeopardizing the other team’s defense thanks to the presence of these two guys.

With All-Star forward Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Porzingis, and Holiday in the lineup, the Celtics had the best offensive unit by the end of the regular season. Out of 30 teams in the NBA this season, the defense unit of the squad finished third.

For this reason, it is not shocking that Boston won the league as a whole in addition to taking first place in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics were able to win 64 games and only lose 18 while Mazzulla was in charge.

Joe Mazzulla hopes Celtics can learn valuable lesson from In-Season Tournament

Following Joe Mazzulla’s rejection as a candidate for coach of the year, the Boston Celtics fan base takes to the NBA.

The league announced its Coach of the Year nominees not too long ago. The following replies on X show how Boston’s supporters criticized the NBA for the omission as soon as they found out Mazzulla wasn’t included:

Despite leading the Celtics to the best record in the NBA this season, Greg Dudek wrote, “Joe Mazzulla wasn’t good enough to be considered for this award.”

“It doesn’t seem like something terrible. What stands out to you? The fact that not a single Celtic is present is very amusing, but I understand. They are a group of excellent to very talented footballers. It’s funny that none of the top players from the season received a finalist nomination, Keith Smith remarked.

“Joe Mazzulla was a finalist the year before, but his team wins the regular season handily this time, so why is he no longer a finalist? What makes sense out of this? said Mike Dynon.

Sam LaFrance tweeted, “Mazzulla not even being a FINALIST is dirty work.”

It was never going to happen, supporters of the Celtics. According to Neon Genesis Evan Fournier, “there’s always a narrative more engaging than “boston is good again.”

“In any case, who needs 64 wins?” Jack Simone shared a link.

Noa Dalzell expressed her surprise that Joe Mazzulla is not a finalist for Coach of the Year.

In recent years, Chris Finch and Mark Daigneault have led the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder, respectively, to their finest records. Jamahl Mosley, meantime, has contributed to the Orlando Magic, under Paolo Banchero’s leadership, going from a terrible team to a potential playoff contender.

It’s puzzling that the coach with the best record in the league isn’t among the three nominees, even if they all deserve praise. In any event, in the upcoming days, Boston supporters won’t be taking this one lightly.
